Challenge: This project had several challenges, including – multiple maintenance of traffic phases, truck access restrictions, extensive railroad coordination, and numerous local stakeholder interactions. RQAW was selected by INDOT LaPorte to oversee and inspect the construction of this project in large part because of the experience, expertise, and leadership Mike Ready brought to the Project Supervisor position and entire construction management team. Mike’s leadership proved very effective as this project was delivered on-budget, on-schedule, and with a high standard of quality.

Solution: This large-scope, multiple-phased project included the replacement of the concrete bridge deck, bridge railings, pedestrian walkways, bridge lighting, and pavement approaches of the US 35 multiple span bridge structure over the Norfolk Southern Railroad and City of La Porte street infrastructure. In addition, the existing structural steel beams and bearings were also refurbished as part of the project. RQAW staff worked closely with the INDOT La Porte District Construction Management team, Norfolk Southern Railroad representatives, and City of La Porte local officials throughout the project to ensure the construction schedule, construction costs, quality of work, and roadway user needs were all fully considered, maintained, and delivered.
