This $3M project consisted of the replacement of the superstructure of the bridge crossing Amity Ditch on US 31, the replacement of the bridge deck on SR 44 over Young’s Creek, and the patch and overlay of SR 252 over Young’s Creek. This work consisted of substructure patching, deck overlays, demolition, major falsework and associated structural concrete placement with steel reinforcement. The project on SR 44 over Young’s Creek involved a major scope change due to unforeseen deterioration of the existing bridge deck. It was originally slated for a simple overlay, but after discovery of extensive deterioration during the hydro-blasting, it was determined that this bridge deck was no longer sound and required a full replacement. RQAW worked with the contractor and INDOT to facilitate this major change and did so with a minimal impact to the overall budget due to savings found elsewhere on the contract.
