Arlington Avenue & Shelbyville Road Roundabout

Indianapolis Department of Public Works

This functionally obsolete intersection of Arlington Avenue and Shelbyville Road was originally a four-way, stop-controlled intersection with an approach that consisted of two 10-ft travel lanes in each direction. To accommodate the increasing amount of traffic in the area, RQAW | DCCM realigned Arlington Avenue to integrate a turning movement so that traffic, including semis, could navigate the roundabout properly. The final design was a small geometrical, single-lane roundabout with an inscribed circle diameter of 100 ft in a way that minimally impacted surrounding right-of-way and utilities.
