Enhancing Intersection Safety and Efficiency:
SR 66 & Epworth Road Intersection Improvement in Warrick County
The RQAW | DCCM Construction Inspection team partnered with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Warrick County for the construction of a new intersection configuration at SR 66 and Epworth Road in Warrick County, Indiana. Handling over 50,000 vehicles daily, this intersection faced inefficiencies and safety concerns due to the high traffic volume. The intersection was reconstructed from its traditional left and right turn lane design to a modern Displaced Left Turn (DTL) configuration, only the second of its kind in Indiana.
Completed in 2024, the DTL intersection significantly improved traffic flow and safety for thousands of daily commuters in southern Indiana. In addition to the intersection reconfiguration, two I-69 interstate ramps were realigned as part of the project to further enhance connectivity for motorists. Despite challenges such as utility conflicts, drainage issues, and maintaining business access during construction, our team worked closely with the INDOT Vincennes District, contractors, and project stakeholders to deliver this $14.9M project several months ahead of schedule.
“It was obvious at the project opening just how effective the new intersection reconfiguration was in providing a more efficient and safer intersection. We are proud to have been a part of this project to enhance the safety and overall commute experience of motorists in the area as well as the residents of Warrick and Vanderburgh counties.”
– Chriss Jobe, RQAW | DCCM Director of Construction Inspection
The opening of the newly reconfigured intersection brought immediate benefits to the community, transforming traffic flow and safety. The SR 66 and Epworth Road Intersection Improvement project highlights RQAW | DCCM’s commitment to delivering innovative infrastructure solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
